Let the world change you... and you can change the world

The War On Democracy

The current controversy over the Dubai ports deal is a great example of just what is going on in this war between democracy and capitalism. For four plus years now all we’ve heard from the Bush administration is “9-11 changed everything”, “You’re either for us or against us”, “We’re fighting them there so we don’t have to fight them here”, etc., etc. And then out of the clear blue Bush is more than happy to cut a deal turning over significant aspects of our ports to a company that is owned by an Arab country. Absolutely the most stupid thing this administration has done yet — and that is saying one heck of a lot right there. This defies all notions of common sense, much less simple intelligence. So how do you explain it? Simple — this is a “business deal”. Making money trumps the security of this country every time. The people in charge don’t give a damn about anything but money. Nothing could be more clear.

The good news here is that this one finally seems to have gotten the attention of the average American. It’s going to be interesting to see how it turns out — as it’s becoming clear that BushCo is going to push through with this deal. If it does go through in any shape or form, I think you can start turning out the lights on democracy in the U.S.
