Let the world change you... and you can change the world

Scary Times

At long, long last the issue of our national addiction to oil is finally starting to get the attention of the public that it should have gotten some 7+ years ago. Pretty much every major problem that we now face is a direct result of this addiction — it’s a major cause of the economic problems that are just now starting to surface, it’s the major cause of environmental problems that have been snowballing on us for some time, and it’s at the root of the terrorism problem as well. We kick our oil addiction and voila — the economy is again booming, the environment is clean and safe, and terrorism disappears from our shores. The 9-11 tragedy made this oh so obvious — but alas, we not only had morons running the country, they were Big Oil morons that were going to have nothing to do with admitting to the truth. But now we have a chance to perhaps put someone in the White House who actually cares about America and it’s people — and thus start dealing with this critical issue.

That’s the good news. But the bad news is that there are a lot of complicated issues here involving a lot of science and economics. And we are a nation where the vast majority of people are so incredibly stupid that they couldn’t even see through the misinformation and outright lies that were used to take this country to war in Iraq. Every single fact, every single shred of evidence, every bit of common sense told you that the Iraq invasion was a terribly wrong, terribly stupid idea. As the saying goes, this wasn’t “rocket science” — anyone with an IQ higher than that of a rutabaga should have been able to see through the pack of lies BushCo was selling.

So how in the world can we expect the average American to understand issues like Peak Oil and Global Warming? These are NOT simple issues by any stretch. And once again, BushCo and BushCo Wannabes (aka John McCain et al) are pushing a whole new set of lies and propaganda and misinformation. First we had the ludicrous proposal for a “gas tax holiday” which would have solved absolutely nothing. And now we have the idiots-in-charge pushing for renewal of offshore drilling and opening up ANWR for drilling. Talk about re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic! The problem is not needing more oil, the problem is kicking the oil habit all together! And add to that the idiots trying to convince us that high gas prices are simply a result of speculators. How many of these people have ever seen a simple supply-demand curve I wonder? This is Economics 101 folks — if you don’t understand basic economics, don’t go shooting off your mouth. Some one please tell me why the likes of Newt Gingrich is back in the news? Doesn’t the media already have enough morons to parade in front of the cameras?

It’s past time to put some intelligent people back in control of the country. Is this asking too much of an electorate that is so collectively stupid that it elected the likes of George Bush, not once but twice? It boggles the mind that any more than a handful of people are actually considering voting for John McCain and thus four more years of the same incompetency.
