Let the world change you... and you can change the world

Today’s Republican Party

This was a wild week for the Republican Party.  Let’s recap:

1) Once again they blocked passage of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health Bill which would have provided much needed medical benefits to emergency workers who were first responders in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attack.  Words fail when it comes to describing just how contemptible and immoral this particular act is.  Where are the “9/11 changed everything” super patriots now?  Where is “a noun, a verb and 9/11” Giuliani now?  And why isn’t every red-white-and-blue editorial page in this country screaming for the immediate recall of each Congressperson who voted against this bill?

2) They also blocked repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”, even though every poll shows that the public is very much for the repeal, all the top military brass is for it, and a Pentagon study concluded that the repeal would have no negative effect on the military.  In short, there was no reason to oppose the repeal other than outright bigotry.  This just confirms that today’s Republican Party is the 21st century version of the KKK.  It’s no longer politically acceptable to be a racist towards blacks, so the Republicans instead vent their hatred towards other minorities, like gays and Hispanics and Muslims.

3) And finally, they continued to hold all other legislation hostage over the issue of tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% of Americans, once again confirming that they really don’t give a shit about 98% of Americans.  The wealthy are their overlords, and they are the only ones the Republican Party cares about.

And to think, this is the party that just won a landslide election just last month, and who will control Congress for the next two years.  How anyone who voted for these despicable bastards can live with themselves is beyond me.
