Let the world change you... and you can change the world

Idiot Nation At Its Best

If you have any doubts at all about the fact that we indeed do live in Idiot Nation, the current debate over raising the debt ceiling should remove all doubt. Whether or not you believe not raising the debt ceiling will be a financial Armageddon is not the point. Even if there’s only a 1-in-10,000 chance that not raising it would cause a worldwide financial meltdown, it’s plain idiotic to even take that small chance. As has been amply pointed out, under George Bush the debt ceiling was increased 19 frigging times without any controversy whatsoever. Even St. Ronald Reagan considered the idea of not raising it to be madness.

But this whole current debate goes way, way beyond the debt ceiling madness. Ultimately it’s all about the economy, right? And what are by far and away the three major causes of the current “Lesser Depression“?

1) Bush’s unfunded wars in the Middle East
2) Bush’s tax cuts for the rich
3) Bush’s failure to regulate Wall Street

So, it seems to me that the no-brainer way to solve our current problems is to fix the things that are the cause of all our problems — get the hell out of the Middle East, put taxes on the rich back to where they were, and start policing Wall Street. If you’ve got water in your living room that’s being caused by a leaky roof, you fix the damned roof, no? You don’t go changing the oil in the family car. It’s just that brain dead simple — and yet the American people just don’t seem to get it.

All hail Idiot Nation!
