Please Help Matt Taibbi Get Off Crack

I’m normally a big fan of Matt Taibbi, but WTF was he smoking when he wrote this:

When push comes to shove, we all should know most Americans want the same things, but just disagree on how to get there, which is why it should be okay to not panic if the other party wins….. We should be confident that whoever wins has our collective best interests at heart, even if we don’t agree with his or her ideology.

That may have been true back in the 1950’s, but in 2012 that’s a total crock of shit.  One party wants a strong middle class, equal treatment for all regardless of race, sex, religion, or sexual preference, a better world to live in for everyone, and a better tomorrow for our children.  The other party despises the poorest 47%, doesn’t give a damn about the needy and underprivileged, hates minority groups, wants to give more money and power to the wealthiest 1%, and couldn’t care less about the future our children will inherit.  The two parties could not be farther apart on what they want for America.

Do you really believe that “life doesn’t change too terribly much in America no matter which party wins the presidency”?  Are you fucking kidding me?  3,000 dead Americans in the 9-11 terrorist attack.  7,700 Americans killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, another 48,000 wounded.  2,000 Americans dead as a result of hurricane Katrina, 275,000 families left homeless.  40,000 Americans dying each year due to lack of proper health care.  Sheez, Matt, did you sleep walk through the Bush years?

You really think the next four years will be about the same regardless of whether Obama or Romney wins?  There’s not a dime’s worth of difference between Bush and Romney — tax cuts for the rich, letting big business and Wall St. bankers run wild without any oversight, increased spending on the military,  total disregard for the environment, invading other countries just because we can.  Barack Obama may have been a disappointment in many ways, but compared to Bush and what we would get with Romney, it’s night and day.
