Obama Calling Out Republicans For What They Really Are?

I keep hoping for kick-ass, take-no-prisoners, progressive Obama to show up in his second term, and this bit is encouraging:

“They [Republicans] say that their biggest priority is making sure that we deal with the deficit in a serious way, but the way they’re behaving is that their only priority is making sure that tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans are protected,” he said.

“That seems to be their only overriding, unifying theme.”

In his first term, I could understand a lot of the compromising he did and his “middle-of-the-road” policies — after all, the system pretty much dictates that any President be somewhat in campaign-mode during their first term. But now that he’s been re-elected by a strong majority, and there’s no more campaigning, it’s time to start calling out the Republican Party for what they are — a party that in the end, only gives a shit about the wealthiest Americans, and everyone else be damned. And this needs to be made painfully clear to all Americans, particularly the middle-class “social conservatives” who have been taken for a ride by the plutocratic wing of the Republican Party. One of the top issues facing the country right now is the economy, and until middle-class Republicans figure out that Obama is really on their side on the economy, we’re going to be stuck in neutral. Higher taxes on the rich, lower taxes for the middle-class, and significant government stimulus programs are mandatory for a full economic recovery. Middle-class Republicans need to get with this program, and Obama needs to keep hammering this message home.
